Tooth Sensitivity – A Big Pain In The Mouth
Imagine you are eating your favorite chocolate chip ice cream or mouth-watering brownie and suddenly your sensitive tooth announces its presence and makes your face crumble with pain. Tooth sensitivity is certainly very painful and should never be ignored.
Tooth sensitivities are very common. Sensitivity of the teeth is often the result of a cavity or a fracture in your tooth. Whenever you are drinking or eating something very hot or cold, your sensitive tooth would protest by giving you pain or severe discomfort. Even exposure to cold air may result in sensitive teeth.
The enamel and the gums of your teeth protect dentin, the basic layer of your teeth. As your gums begin to retreat, the dentin starts to get exposed. The dentin may get exposed due to various reasons, smoking ebing one of them. Exposure of dentin means exposure of your tooth's nerves to air or germs. Now, when this dentin comes in direct contact with hot or cold substance, it results in severe pain. There are many creams that can help with sensitive teeth by numbing them. A visit to the dentist is the only sure way to diagnose what the cause of your sensitive teeth may be.
