Kids Dental Routines – Good Dental Habits Begin At A Young Age
Establishing kids dental routines can begin at a very early age. Both parents and dentists play an important role each kids dental routine and requires consistency and even fun. Parents can begin a dental routine with their infants by caring for babies’ gums after each feeding. A soft cloth or clean gauze can be used to gently wipe the surface of the gums. Most little ones have at least one tooth appear before they are one year old and parents can establish a lifelong routine of brushing by beginning with the very first teeth. As soon as the tooth begins to emerge and the child can sit still long enough for a quick visit to the dentist, it is a good idea to arrange for a visit to a dental office. The best time to schedule a visit is when a parent has a cleaning and the child can experience how unintimidating the world of dentistry really is.
children tend to be more likely to try something new if they think it is fun and that is the way some parents get kids to take an interest in establishing dental routines. For kids who are resistant to brushing their teeth, parents might want to make a fun game out of that routine. Some parents have had success in getting their kids to brush their teeth by allowing the child to brush the parent’s teeth. When a parent is involved in a childs dental care, they can also monitor the safe use of toothpaste and proper rinsing habits.
Many of today’s youth receive dental education in school, but if that is the first real introduction to dental care kids may already have a number of dental problems and establishing a good routine may be more difficult. Dental education should begin at home with regular dentist visits, fluoride toothpaste, and healthy eating habits. Children who have health dental routines established from a very young age can often look forward to fewer dental problems and healthier looking teeth and gums.
