Free Oral Health Care – Dental Awareness Day

U.S. Rep. Dave Camp, R-Midland, who has been a long-time advocate of preventive health care, is encouraging his constituents to take advantage of Dental Awareness Day on Friday, July 18. On that day, members of the Academy of General Dentistry will make themselves available to answer consumers’ questions regarding oral health issues through their SmileLine.

Oral diseases and conditions, ranging from benign tooth cavities to potentially deadly oral and pharyngeal cancers, affect millions of Americans, said Camp, a member of the Subcommittee on Health. Yes, many of these outcomes are entirely preventable. I am pleased that dentists across the country are giving their time for this important cause.

The AGD’s toll-free SmileLine is part of an ongoing campaign to promote proper oral health care and to increase public awareness regarding the importance of oral hygiene. As part of the special SmileLine project, licensed and trained dentists from around the nation will be available to consult with or offer advice to consumer in need of oral health care.

Consumers may also post questions online at any time by visiting the SmileLine Online section of the AGD’s website at www.agd.org.

This is a great opportunity for individuals who have questions about oral health care issues, Camp said. Prevention is critical for a healthier life, and it is my hope that creating awareness about the importance of this matter will lead to a healthier nation.
