Recyclable Toothbrush – Recycline Launches Children's Recyclable Toothbrush
Fueled by a growing interest in recycling among kids and an increasing
concern for better oral health, Recycline, Inc. has developed the Preserve, Jr., a recyclable toothbrush for
children. The Preserve, Jr. follows the successful 1997 launch of the Preserve, Recycline's adult
toothbrush.
Since the introduction of the Preserve, consumers and retailers have been asking Recycline to
offer a recyclable toothbrush for children. The Preserve, Jr. will help kids develop good brushing habits at
an early age by giving them a toothbrush with a story—a recycled product that brings to life what they
learn in school about recycling, says Recycline president Eric Hudson.
It adds an interesting twist to a
product that parents often have difficulty getting their children to use, adds Hudson.
To support the growth of the recycling industry and reduce our country's reliance on natural
resources and landfills, environmental organizations and public officials nationwide agree that the
purchase of products made from recycled materials is essential.
The Federal Environmental Executive of the United States, Fran McPoland, states: In order for
recycling to succeed in the United States, it must be economically viable. The purchase of recycled
materials by manufacturers and of recycled products by consumers is a critical part of the recycling chain.
Recycling doesn’t end when you put your garbage and recyclables at the end of the driveway. Hudson
says he is hopeful that the launch of the Preserve, Jr. will spark a new level of growth in products made
from recycled materials by further introducing parents and kids to this essential step of buying recycled.
As brushers young and old are replacing their toothbrushes more frequently, Recycline's
toothbrush recycling effort makes sense. In fact, the American Dental
Association recommends replacing toothbrushes at least four times a year. At replacement rates of only
two times a year, it is estimated that toothbrushes account for over 50 million pounds of waste annually
in the United States.
Like its adult version, the Preserve, Jr. will feature a handle made from recycled polypropylene
plastic, #5, and bristles made of premium virgin nylon. The handle, bristles and packaging of the Preserve, Jr. are completely recyclable. To make recycling easy, the Preserve and the Preserve, Jr. come with a
postage-paid mailer for recycling. Kids are encouraged to return their used Preserve, Jr. to Recycline
where the company turns them into plastic lumber which is used to make park benches and porch decks.
